A FUNDRAISING swim through the Bristol Channel for the RNLI set for this weekend has been postponed due to safety concerns.

The swim was due to see fundraisers swim from Brean Down to Anchor Head to raise money for the lifeboat charity on Sunday.

A shortage of safety kayaks to accompany each swimmer has meant the event can no longer go ahead.

RNLI spokesman Glyn Hayes said: “As the kayaks are the most important in maintaining the safety of the swimmers the organisers have decided that the race has had to be delayed.”

The charity has postponed the event until September 9, when it hopes there will be enough kayaks for it to take place.

The RNLI has also appealed for any kayaker who can help out to contact sean.mchenry@hotmail.co.uk
