ROADS in Banwell and Locking will be closed over the coming months as work to lay down a major water main gets under way.

The £3.6million project, by Bristol Water, will see a new main installed from Banwell to Hutton, with a spur going off to the new Locking Parklands development.

Wolvershill Road in Banwell will be closed for three weeks from June 11-28, and an alternative route will be signposted.

The closure had already been planned for May but was postponed.

North Somerset Council has granted permission for a two-way traffic light system to be installed on the road on June 6-9.

Two-way traffic lights will be used on the A371 between Locking and Banwell from tomorrow (Fri) to May 25 while the 300mm spur is laid to Locking Parklands.

A section of Banwell Road known as Devil’s Elbow will also be closed from June 6-8.
