Roadworks to take five years

PUBLISHED: 07:59 14 September 2012

WORK has begun on a new road which it is hoped will reduce traffic congestion around Weston.

Contractors began building work on a new roundabout this week and it signals the first stage of the Cross Airfield Link (CAL). Planners hope it will become a link road between Locking Moor Road (A371) and Winterstoke Road.

The CAL, which is expected to take five years to complete, is expected to open up more job and housing opportunities.

The 17 hectare Weston Business Quarter on the airfield site will provide workspace for several companies, a hotel and a pub. It is expected that the Business Quarter will create up to 4,000 jobs.

Later developments will see up to 2,400 homes, two new primary schools and a range of community facilities being built.

All the work is being carried out by Persimmon Homes.
