A DAREDEVIL rock climbing event will return to Cheddar this year by popular demand.

The first ever Crag AttaK was held last summer for experienced climbers to test their skills in the gorge.

But now the organisers, Cheddar Caves and Gorge, has planned to run the event again this year on June 21.

Last year the gruelling course around the gorge included a 400ft traverse. A rope was stretched between Roman Wall and High Rock, which are 200ft apart. Climbers then had to shimmy along the rope before abseiling down to the ground.

The event includes abseiling, running, rock climbing and the daredevil traverse. The highlight of last year's festival was the gruelling Cheddar Man Marathon, in which two teams of 12 faced an arduous circuit of the gorge, including climbs, a dash up the 274 Steps, a sky-high traverse and a 100m abseil.

Climbers wishing to take part must have BMC or third party climbing insurance in order to take part and organisers suggest applicants such be familiar with the hobby, rather than novices.
