CROWDS of people turned up at Burrington Combe for an outdoor service.

The open air event was held to commemorate a hymn written by the Reverend Augustus Toplady, when he was rector of Blagdon.

He was said to be inspired to write Rock of Ages in 1763 while sheltering from a storm in a cleft of rock in the gorge. People took along their chairs and gathered opposite the rock to enjoy a service and live music from the Clevedon Salvation Army Band.
