Rocket in Martin Corkish's garden

A WEDMORE man had a big surprise when he saw a rocket land in his garden on

A seven foot chunk of the 14ft rocket missed Martin Corkish, who was working on the extension to his home, by just 12 feet, while a 4ft part of the rear section ended up embedded in his garden.

The rocket was originally launched in fields near to Canal Drove one mile to the east of Wedmore, but broke up in mid-flight, with the front of it ending up in a farmer’s field in Cocklake.

Mr Corkish said: “I heard a whistling noise and looked up and then heard a thud as it hit the ground. My neighbours saw it coming and said it was still flying when it came over.

“I couldn’t believe that something of that size could just land in my back garden.”
