A Weston woman has been given a medal to mark her decades of service to the town.

Rosemary Dowie was named on the New Year’s Honours List in January in recognition of more than 30 years spent volunteering.

Now she has been awarded with her British Empire Medal (BEM) by the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset Annie Maw.

Rosemary has played a vital role in the running of numerous groups including running Weston Arts Festival for 20 years and helping set up the croquet club.

Rosemary said: “I have some very pleasant memories of working with all sorts of people in this town.

“It is an award to be proud of.”

The Friends of the Playhouse, Weston Youth Orchestra and civic society have also all been boosted by her dedication and expertise.

Rosemary is no stranger to recognition, having previously picked up mayor’s awards in 2002 and 2015.
