An early appeal for volunteers to help with this year’s Poppy Appeal has been made.

The Royal British Legion’s team for Pill and Portishead is asking anyone interested to put their name forward.

This week it announced it managed to raise more than £30,000 in 2017.

Steve Meyrick, the appeal’s organiser for the area, said: “We would like to thank everybody who was involved in the appeal and collection for 2017-18.

“We are pleased to announce the final total stands at £30,079.89 which is a record for the district.

“A special mention to all those who donated to the appeal which helped to raise this amazing amount.”

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the culmination of World War One so the appeal has extra significance.

Anyone wishing to help should email stephenmeyrick@hotmail.com or call him on 07867 318230 or email sandrafavell@hotmail.com or call 07983 442777.
