TWO dedicated volunteers have attended a Royal garden party at Buckingham Palace in recognition of their service to Diabetes UK.

Christine Staff, of Weston, attended the event on May 22 with Weston diabetes specialist nurse Ann Barrett.

For more than two decades, Christine has been a vital part of the Diabetes UK Weston Voluntary Group, also holding the post of treasurer.

She joined the group after being diagnosed with type two diabetes and was unable to find information about the condition.

Christine said: “I was so shocked and thrilled to hear that I had been selected to go the garden party with the Queen.

“When I was diagnosed, my consultant said there was only one book on diabetes in the whole of Weston. He owned it and he said I could borrow it for a week.

“It is so different now, Diabetes UK has so much information available and has made many advances through research. The group has given me a lot of support since my diagnosis.”

Weston Voluntary Group is welcoming new members. To contact them email or call 01934 628985.
