PRINCE Edward will visit volunteers at Burnham Area Rescue Boat (BARB) to hear about its work during the Somerset floods and its future plans.

His Royal Highness the Earl of Wessex will call in on the charity’s seafront headquarters on June 9, meeting crewmembers and inspecting their two hovercraft and the inshore rescue boat.

During the visit, he will also unveil an information panel detailing royal visits to the Burnham area over the last millenium.

Prince Edward himself last visited the site in 2009 to mark the 25th anniversary of BARB’s Spirit of Lelaina coming into service.

Mark Newman, BARB’s chairman said: “We are both delighted and honoured to be welcoming the Prince back to Burnham, five years after his last visit.

“He has already showed a great deal of interest in BARB’s work and we are looking forward to telling him about our plans for the future when he comes next month.”
