Rugby team seeks Go Kids Go! grant

A Weston-super-Mare rugby team is hoping its members will feel like ‘part of the team’ if it is able to use Go Kids Go! money for new kit.
The Hornet Raiders Under-7s team, which is part of Hornets RFC, wants to buy waterproof training jackets with a Go Kids Go! grant.
The team caters for boys and girls in year two, and aims to teach youngsters about respect, teamwork and discipline within the sport.
However, it says it does not have a matching training kit for members and believes children would feel more included within club life if they were to have the new jackets.
Head coach Charlotte Sexton said: “It will be really good for the team because the jackets are really expensive and it would mean the team would be able to help parents pay for some of the equipment, as it is expensive when your children are into sports.
“It is their first year of being able to play matches so it is really important they work well as a team – and in having matching training kit, it will help them feel part of a community.”
Go Kids Go! is in its fifth year and sees the Mercury team up with the Weston Lions Club and various businesses in the town to hand out cash grants to community groups promoting activity in young people.
If you think your community group deserves a share of this year’s £12,000 pot, is based within the postcode areas BS22, BS23, BS24, BS25 or BS29, and is a registered club, charity or not-for-profit organisation, you can apply for a grant.
The winners will be announced in the Mercury on July 28 and grants will be presented on the final day of the Lions’ ale festival, which will take place on the Beach Lawns, Weston, from July 29-31.
To apply for a grant, download an application form by visiting www.westonmercury.co.uk or pick one up from the Mercury office. When you have completed the form, send it to Go Kids Go!, The Weston, Worle & Somerset Mercury, 32 Waterloo Street, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1LW, email it to email@example.com or hand it in at our office.
The deadline for applications is 9am on July 20.
