The Samaritans of Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset are desperately looking for volunteers to join their ranks.

The charity provides support to those who are struggling in life, but a significant increase in calls means the charity needs more support workers.

Last year saw the introduction of the new free phone line which means anyone can call the Samaritans for help without paying.

Branch director Joe said: “The recent introduction of a free-call number means the number of calls has soared.

“We are much busier than we used to be so there could be times when calls go unanswered and this is unacceptable.”

The charity needs volunteers of all types to join their ranks, including roles in fundraising, call handlers and publicity.

There will be an information morning at the Samaritan base, in High Street, on November 11 from 10am to noon.
