WESTON karate champion Sarah Clark rounded off a successful few months in competitions by carrying the Olympic Torch.

The 24-year-old nursing student won three championships from April to June, and carried the torch as it passed through Bristol.

In the past three months she has won gold medals at the English Karate Championships (where she defended her title for the twelfth time), British Universities and College Sports Karate Championships and the British Four Nations Karate Championships.

She was nominated to carry the torch for one leg of its 8,000-mile journey by the University of the West of England where she is studying, and was then asked to run it for a further lap through Bristol after another runner was forced to pull out.

And far from stopping there Miss Clark, of Montpelier, will take part in the Universities World Karate Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia next month and will be part of the England Karate Team taking part in an international event in France in August.

She has been a member of Oldmixon and Uphill Karate Club since the age of seven.
