A rally to call for Weston General Hospital's A&E to open as soon as possible shall be held on Saturday.

Save Weston A&E campaigners will assemble at the Italian Gardens at noon and want members of the public to join them.

Organiser Helen Thornton said: “We want everyone in Weston and surrounding areas to come to the march and rally to show the leadership of Weston General Hospital we want our A&E department reopened.

“More than 200,000 people potentially rely on this service.

“Although the hospital leadership team is recruiting doctors and consultants to resource a 24-hour A&E, it cannot give a date for reopening and has not communicated an update for several weeks.

“We think it’s vital a growing town such as Weston has a 24/7 A&E department.”

A second demonstration is planned at 9am on Tuesday ahead of a hospital board meeting.
