A 16-YEAR-OLD boy was the culprit responsible for setting light to a scarecrow at a village festival, police confirmed this week.
The Mercury reported last month how arsonists attacked six of the features at the Uphill Scarecrow Festival over the weekend of September 25 and 26.
A police spokesman said the youth had admitted torching a scarecrow on Ellesmere Road and he was given a fixed penalty notice for criminal damage and an £80 fine.
The spokesman added that five scarecrows were also set alight on Old Church Road during the festival.
