A £1MILLION sports hall could be built to serve the Wedmore area.Hugh Sexey Middle School in Blackford wants to upgrade its indoor sports facilities by building a new hall in its grounds. If built, the hall would be the size of three badminton courts and cater for activities including five-a-side football, dance and gymnastics. It would be available to the community when not being used by the school. The school is looking for a project or fund-raising manager to take the scheme forward and is open to offers from parents and residents.Headteacher David Cameron said: "We feel a school which has a sports record like ours should have a proper hall."The range of activities we undertake is increasing and we now have martial arts, more dance classes and girls' golf. The current hall doesn't meet our standards."If we had a new hall we could use the current one to improve our drama opportunities."One of the school's parents has drawn up outline plans for the hall, but we have not obtained planning permission."It would be a massive project for the school to undertake."We would also want to talk to Wedmore Parish Council about possibly sharing the cost in some way - £1m is probably a conservative estimate, it could easily cost £1.25m."We are currently looking for sources of funding, including The Football Association."We are interested in hearing from someone who might act as a fund-raising or project manager. It could be a parent or someone else."We have earmarked four potential sites. Three are in the existing tennis courts area and one is near Wells Way, but this is the least preferred site.
