A PRIMARY school was shut down after a tile slid off a classroom roof and hit a young teenager. The 14-year-old former pupil was struck by the tile as she was helping to pick up her sister from Christ Church Primary School in Weston with her mum. The tile hit her on the head. The girl suffered bruising on her head and although shaken up after the accident, she was luckily not seriously injured and was not taken to hospital. The area around the roof was temporarily cordoned off.The Baker Street school was closed for a day and experts were called in to inspect the roof to check if it was safe. Other roofs at the school were also checked.Work has now been carried out by a team from North Somerset Council, which runs the voluntary aided school alongside the Bath and Wells Diocese.Work to the problem roof was carried out earlier this year as part of a huge programme of improvements to schools carried out by the council.A spokesman for the authority said: "The girl suffered a bump on the head and was quite shaken up but did not need to go to hospital."She was actually quite embarrassed with the attention she received. The school had to be closed to ensure the roof was safe."It was inspected by surveyors and members of our asset management team went down to do some work which was carried out to make sure it is safe."The incident happened on June 9. The school opened as normal on Monday.
