THE first building in a massive £6million extension at a Worle school has been completed.Priory Community School's headteacher Ron Richards was given the keys to the new humanities block this week.The school has been working with architects Stride Treglown for 18 months on the scheme, which has been funded by North Somerset Council. Builders started work on the site last July.The new humanities block includes four new classrooms laid out around a central area where groups of students can study on their own or teachers can teach to more than one class. There is also a staffroom.Students will be having their first lessons in the new building next month.In July the main block at the front of the school will be ready to be furnished so students can use it in September.Downstairs there will be a new reception area, the main office, a central atrium, a new school hall with tiered retractable seating for 250 people and a state-of-the-art suite of music rooms.Upstairs there will be eight teaching rooms, a staffroom and a sound/lighting control room for the hall.The third building, to be handed over in August, will be the new sixth form block. Courses will be provided there in partnership with Weston College and other secondary schools.
