MORE than 800 schools applied for the chance to take pupils to Banksy’s Dismaland at Weston-super-Mare’s Tropicana, but North Somerset students were the first to be shown around.
Teenagers from Backwell School got a glimpse of Banksy’s biggest ever show on Monday, and were given a guided tour of the inside gallery.
They were then let loose around the exhibition, trying out its Ferris wheel, exploring the Dismaland castle and more.
The school’s art teacher Julie Hill said: “I want to thank Dismaland for giving us this opportunity, as it has been a really thought-provoking trip for the students.”
One of the school’s pupils, Heather Leach, said: “The attention to detail throughout was brilliant and the moody atmosphere has certainly left me feeling depressed. A lot of the art was witty, but its connections to current affairs and issues was clear and has made me think.”
Priory Community School took its students to Dismaland yesterday (Thursday) and teenagers from Worle Community School will be visiting the exhibition today (Friday).
