Some of Highbridge's most talented young performers lit up the town at the annual Christmas light switch-on.

Churchfield Church School’s choir sang carols and other festive songs and were watched by a crowd of people to kick off the Christmas celebrations.

Lights were switched on at the Town Green, in Market Street, alongside the Christmas tree, which was provided by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.

The community hall in the town was also open for businesses and had a number of treats, hot drinks and crafts on offer.

The mayor and mayoress were also in attendance on the chilly evening to join in with the celebrations.

Mike Murphy, chairman of the Highbridge chamber of trade and commerce, said: “We are grateful for everyone who came along – it was a great festive atmosphere.

“We also would like to thank the town council for their support in providing the tree and Christmas lighting.”
