SCORES of protesters are expected to pack the streets of Portishead to protest against the timing of a meeting to discuss the town's cabstand road layout. The protest march, being organised by Portishead town councillor David Pasley, is scheduled to leave the Folk Hall car park at 11am on Saturday and snake its way along the High Street. The march is being organised to protest against the timing of a meeting of North Somerset's strategic planning and economic development policy and scrutiny panel on March 24.The panel is due to look again at the decision to install the Cabstand road system and, if necessary, make recommendations to North Somerset Council executive. The meeting is being held at 3pm, and despite calls by councillors and members of the public to move it to the evening so residents can attend, chairman Elfan Ap Rees refused to do so.The amount of people backing the march is growing, with residents, traders and even members of the emergency services fed up with being stuck in the Cabstand queues, pledging to join the protest.Councillor Pasley said: "There has been massive support for the march and I have so many people e-mailing me and telephoning me to say they are going to join the protest."Only one person who I have spoken to thought the traffic lights made the area safer."I am urging everyone who wants to show their feelings about the timing of the meeting and the problems at the Cabstand traffic lights to join the march."It will be their last chance, apart from going to the scrutiny panel meeting if they can get there, to make their protest."The march starts from the Folk Hall car park at 11am and will end on the pedestrian area outside Waitrose.Marchers are being encouraged to bring their own posters and placards.
