A deal worth almost £7million is likely to be agreed next week to improve street lighting.
North Somerset Council’s executive plans to rubberstamp a contract which will see LED lighting increasingly used.
Cllr Elfan Ap Rees, North Somerset deputy leader, said: “Many of our street lights have reached the end of their life.
“This contract will see these outdated concrete columns replaced with new galvanised steel units.
“The lighting units will be replaced with low energy LED units which will conserve energy helping the environment and reducing the drain on council resources.
“The initial investment in improving the condition of our street lighting will be recouped in future years with reduced maintenance and operating costs.”
The council’s proposed deal is with Welsh firm Centregreat Ltd and includes maintenance.
The four-year deal can be extended if both parties wish.
The council’s contract with Scottish and Southern Electric Contracting ends in March.
