MORE than £1,000 has been raised by scout groups in Nailsea and Backwell that ran a Christmas post service.

The scheme, which was sponsored by Pring & Co Estate Agents, saw 8,110 Christmas cards delivered by volunteers from 1st Nailsea, 2nd Nailsea and 1st Backwell scout groups.

Residents paid 15p each for stamps, resulting in a total of £1,314 being collected.

The majority of the money will be used to find scouting activities but donations will also be made to local good causes, including the MS therapy centre in Nailsea.

Stephen Pring, of Pring & Co Estate Agents said: "The beauty of the Scouts' Christmas Post is that everyone gets involved.

"Everyone works really hard to ensure that the cards get safely delivered and the benefits are not just in the boost to the funds of the scout groups and local good causes involved but also in the experience of learning that hard work and team work bring rewards and enjoyment to the whole community.
