SEVENTY scouts, cubs and beavers raucously enjoyed the reopening of Winscombe's scout hut at a special celebration evening.

The 1st Winscombe Scout Group’s hut in The Lynch had been closed for 20 months since a burst water pipe caused it to flood on New Year’s Day in 2011.

That forced the group to relocate to the nearby Lynch Chapel, but at the event on September 18 the hut was officially reopened by Axe District commissioner Michaela Heath.

Group secretary Karen Robinson said: “The event was great, we had a really good turnout. We wanted it to be a celebration evening.”
