A NORTH Somerset cub pack could be under threat if more volunteers do not come forward and offer to help.

The leader of the Cleeve, Claverham and Yatton group's Thursday meetings is hoping to retire this summer and members fear if a replacement is not found it will no longer be able to operate.

David Sleigh, who is the group scout leader for all sections, said: "Both cub packs are at maximum capacity for the size of the building we occupy.

"We have a number of parents who have indicated that they could help but who cannot commit to lead the pack.

"We are therefore looking for someone to step up and take on the challenge of leading both a group of adults and children during the next few years and help develop the pack further.

"Leading a cub group is both challenging and rewarding, as well as being tremendous fun, especially when shared with others.

"My main priority at the moment would be to make sure the cub scout section is covered.

"This group is the one at the greatest risk at present and if we cannot secure a leader who is prepared to take it on then I may need to consider whether it will re-open in the autumn term."
