THE Liberal Democrat party in North Somerset has told a Government inquiry to scrap council tax.Senior councillors of the ruling executive on North Somerset Council have backed a submission by their party to the Lyon's Inquiry which was set up to review the council tax.Lib Dems say council tax increases are outstripping those of pensions making it more difficult for many elderly residents to pay the property related tax.Executive member for finance, Mike Bell, said: "People protest against the council tax because it is fundamentally unfair and does not relate to ability to pay. We will fight to get the council tax scrapped and replace it with a fairer system.
