A VILLAGE primary school has been denied a small cash donation from a parish council because 'not enough of their pupils come from the area'.Weare First School's headteacher, David Williams, wrote to a number of parish councils in June asking for some funding to help pay for equipment. Weare and Badgworth parish councils both made donations of around £100 each but Compton Bishop councillors replied in November saying they would not give the school any cash.In the letter, Compton Bishop's chairman Michael Tobin said that none of Weare First School's pupils are part of the parish, he said they could not afford to donate money because their budget was 'heavily committed' so the donation would provide no financial benefit.Mr Williams said: "I am disappointed. Although we are not strictly in their parish we do have 18 pupils from the Compton Bishop and Cross catchment area at the moment and we class Compton Bishop as our school's parish. There is a daily bus that collects our pupils from the villages of Compton Bishop and Cross every day."Mr Williams also said that he understood the financial difficulties that the parish council has for other projects but was disappointed that the council members did not take into account their links with the parish. He said: "I would appreciate it if the council conveyed these points in full at the next parish council meeting so that in future councillors know our long-standing links with the parish council and so that it continues."Local resident Chris Byrne, of Cross, has since donated £250 to the school.
