YOUTHS playing 'chicken' in stormy seas in Burnham are being warned they are putting their lives at risk. Coastguards have warned the children, some as young as 10, that wave-chicken is a dangerous game after being called out to the northern Esplanade. Station officer Steve Bird said: "The youngsters were clearly seen by our staff running in and out of the waves during very windy, rough conditions."They need to know they are putting themselves in a great deal of danger. We would always advise people to be careful and stay away from the sea in rough conditions." The latest incident of 'wave-chicken', where the children stand on the beach and run away from the waves just before they hit the shoreline, occurred at about 7.30pm on May 17. Strong winds had whipped up big waves which, combined with the high tides in Bristol Channel, resulted in particularly dangerous conditions.
