ROADWORKS along Weston seafront are on schedule and the work is set to be completed by July.

Since September, gas and water pipes which were no longer fit for service have been replaced.

North Somerset Council says the work, taking place in various locations along Marine Parade from the Grand Pier northwards, will finish on time.

The current diversion, which has been in operation since Monday, means there will be no access into the Royal Hotel car park from Royal Parade until March and a one-way system is in place along Knightstone Road until June.

Drivers will not be allowed to park along the route for the next five months as well.

The programme of work is in phases so it will not affect the whole seafront all of the time.

Some of the gas pipes being replaced date from the days when Weston had gas street lamps on the seafront and are well past their useful life.
