HUNDREDS of barrels of beer and cider are being readied for the fifth Weston Lions Real Ale and Cider Festival.

The festival will run on Beach Lawns in Weston from July 26-29 and feature more than 100 beers and ciders from local and national producers.

Charities Bibic, Go Commando and Help For Heroes will all benefit from the festival, which will kick off with a charity dinner and race night on July 26 which has already sold out.

The event will then continue over the next three days, with a host of local companies such as Puxton Park, Thatchers and Butcombe Breweries sponsoring barrels.

On July 29 the winners of the Go! Kids Go! campaign run by the Mercury and the Lions Club will be handed their prizes.

The Mercury was inundated by application forms from local groups working with young people, and we would like to thank all applicants for taking the time to enter.

The winning groups will be presented with cash awards worth up to £1,000, after a judging panel last week considered the groups’ application forms.

The winners will be announced in the Mercury on July 26.
