Dozens of walkers gathered on Weston-super-Mare seafront for a fundraising stroll in aid of dementia on Sunday.

The event was organised by members of West Woodspring Inner Wheel, and involved plenty of families keen to show their support for the cause.

Rotary club walkers – joined by a number of families, and residents of Osbourne House residential home – set off from the Tropicana café in style, with balloons and whistles for the younger hikers, and completed the challenge before Sunday’s rain fell.

President Rose Gilbert told the Mercury the event had raised £365 towards dementia care in the Weston community – a total she said she was ‘delighted’ with.

She said: “Our club welcomed support from members of Weston Rotary club, and also from many residents of Osbourne House residential home.

“A gentle stroll along the promenade, was ended with a welcome drink and snack at Dr Fox’s Tea Room.”
