A LANDOWNER in Axbridge could soon provide a site for a new allotment in the town.

A LANDOWNER in Axbridge could soon provide a site for a new allotment in the town.

Councillor Jim Lukins has set up a meeting with someone who may have a piece of land for the project.

The idea was first suggested by couple Sarah Laborde and Mark Liebman who collected signatures at a farmers' market from people who were interested in the scheme.

Speaking exclusively to the Somerset Mercury in December, Sarah, aged 32, said: "We want the allotment to be something that would involve the whole community and it seems a lot of people in Axbridge would be interested."

Sarah and Mark's proposals also include raised beds for disabled people and elderly residents who may have trouble bending down. They are also keen to involve Axbridge First School and hope youngsters will have their own plot to grow vegetables in.

Cllr Lukins has arranged a meeting with a landowner this week and is hoping a site will soon be available.
