NOMINATIONS are needed as the search for brilliant businesses, community champions and outstanding ambassadors gets under way.More than a dozen local 'Oscars' will be up for grabs at the second annual Weston super Awards.The 15 prizes will be handed out to talented people from all walks of life who make a contribution to the town. Exciting entrepreneurs, top teachers and unsung heroes who work for their communities can all be put forward to receive a prestigious gong.Last year's competition culminated with a glittering awards breakfast at the Winter Gardens, Weston, hosted by Saira Khan, runner-up in the hit BBC 2 programme The Apprentice. With the help of residents, students, customers, pupils, parents, and business leaders, this year's contest promises to be even bigger and better.This year, people putting forward nominations could even win £100 for themselves, plus another £100 for their nominated charity, if their names comes up in a prize draw.In the Community Champions section, Broadoak Community School may be looking to repeat last year's success, with the Health Hero and Young Achiever awards also sure to be closely contended.The Locking Trophy, which is awarded for working with the under 18s, and the Community Champions prize will give vital recognition to those that often work tirelessly behind the scenes.The Business Awards will reward the best new company, fastest growing company and the most popular nightspot, while a special eco-prize for green businesses will also be up for grabs.Hotels, transport providers and shops will be able to win one of the Ambassador Awards, as will leisure attractions and food outlets.Nominating could not be easier, with forms available from the Town Hall, Weston and Worle libraries, Star 107.7FM, the Tourist Information Centre on Weston seafront, Sanders GardenWorld in Brent Knoll and the Weston & Somerset Mercury offices in Waterloo Street.
