A ball has raised thousands of pounds for a Somerset animal rescue charity.

Secret World Animal Rescue, in East Huntspill, held its annual celebration at the Webbington Hotel to mark 25 years since the charity was set up.

As well as live music, guests indulged in a three-course meal, casino and and auction to raise a total of £8,000.

The event’s theme was The Ugly Bug Ball and was compered by The One Show wildlife reporter Mike Dilger.

Pauline Kidner, Secret World founder, said: “The annual ball is one of the key events in our calendar.

“It raises much-needed funds so we can help even more sick and injured animals.

“We are so grateful to our staff and volunteers and anyone else who helped us organise the event, as well as the people who donated auction prizes and those who attended and placed bids on the night. We couldn’t have done it without them.”
