Secret World Wildlife and Rescue, in East Huntspill, is still facing financial challenges six months after suffering devastating destruction during one of its open weekends.

During the Easter weekend, a storm forced it into closure on Easter Monday – known to be its busiest day of the year. As well as missing out on crucial revenue from opening on the day, the storm also caused £40,000 worth of damage.

Secret World founder, Pauline Kidner, said: “It has been tough this year, despite opening every day and all the events we still need everyone’s help.”

The latest high-profile event the centre is holding to raise funds is a charity auction and ball at The Webbington Hotel, in Axbridge on October 1. There will be a silent and regular auction with high-value items like animal paintings on offer.
