A PSYCHIATRIC hospital in Kewstoke is due to open its doors to patients next month.Weston & Somerset Mercury photographer Mark Atherton went along this week to get the first glimpse inside Cygnet Health Care's new facilities at the former Birmingham Hospital Saturday Fund (BHSF) building in Beach Road.Inside the home, which will open on September 25, there are four wards. Each ward is self-sufficient with its own dining, lounge and activity areas. Patients will have their own bedroom with en-suite facilities. The hospital is classified as a 'locked' facility, which means patients who are seen as being particularly vulnerable have to adhere to stringent restrictions about when they can leave the building. There are three secure gardens at the hospital which give the patients access to the outside but with measures stopping them from getting out of grounds.Cygnet Health Care regional director Nicky McLeod, said: "I think our neighbours will be pleasantly surprised at the quality of our hospital and, like the three people who came with me to see our facility in Yorkshire, they will be reassured of the level of security there."I am hoping to set up a communication group with some of the neighbours in the near future so they can have a direct means of discussion should issues arise in the future.
