Serious assault leaves man with head injuries

A MAN was taken to hospital with a serious head injury following an assault in Cheddar.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following the incident, which happened at a takeaway in the village at 2am today (Sat).

A 24-year-old man was seriously assaulted and the police helicopter attended the scene.

The man was taken to Frenchay Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

Detective Inspector Guy Turner said: “In the early hours of this morning a serious assault took place.

“We know there were people in the area at this time following New Year’s celebrations.

“It is imperative we speak to these people as they may have information that could be vital to this investigation.

“I would like to stress this was an isolated incident and officers are working tirelessly to determine what has happened.”

A 20-year-old man has been arrested and currently remains in police custody.
