AN EVENT to mark the creation of a famous hymn will be held in Burrington Combe.

The service will be held on Sunday at 3pm to mark the 250th anniversary of the penning of Rock Of Ages by the Rev Augustus Toplady, curate of Blagdon.

The priest was caught in a ferocious storm in 1762 and took shelter in Burrington Combe, where he wrote the now world-famous hymn.

The service will be held at the location of the plaque commemorating the event. Speaker for the event will be Roger Medley, Canon Missioner for the Diocese of Bath and Wells, while the Clevedon Citadel Salvation Army Band and soprano Zoe Maitland will also perform.
