THERE was community spirit in abundance on Saturday as the people of Shipham flocked to the village’s annual fete.
The afternoon’s events were officially opened with the cutting of a ribbon by the school’s headteacher Mike Jory and the May queen.
A fancy dress parade was judged by The Shipham Players and there were plenty of stalls and games that kept many a happy family busy. Many participated in a fancy dress competition and a bake-off was also held, with the winner judged by the WI. Organiser Angela Rivers said: “Sitting in the sunshine enjoying a delicious barbecue and a pint or two of local ale isn’t a difficult way to raise money, and this year we were able to donate more than £1,000 to the school funds.”
