ONE Somerset village’s show survived the snow to put on an evening of Dickens classics and festive cheer.

The Dickens of a Christmas evening was held at St Michael’s Church in Brent Knoll on Saturday evening (Dec 18), and featured carols, festive traditions and a 40-minute performance of the Charles Dickens classic Oliver.

Organiser John Harper said: “What with the weather we did think about whether it could go on, and we decided it could, and in the end we were just about the only event in Somerset that was on that evening.

“It was brilliant, the audience had a great time, we made some money for St Michael’s Music and Arts Group and everyone went home happy.”
