A GROUP of volunteers has won a prestigious award in a regional competition for its colourful displays.

Weston In Bloom took a silver gilt in the South West In Bloom contest after enhancing areas such as Alexandra Parade, Knightstone Island and Worle High Street. It has also put in planters at Weston railway station, the hanging baskets in Grove Village and the basket tree in the Italian Gardens.

Weston In Bloom chairman Richard Knowles said: “I feel privileged to be part of this organisation and I’m always amazed at the amount of hard work and dedication volunteers put in.”

The group is looking to take over the responsibility for two additional flower beds in Worle, which would mean the entire floral decoration of the village will be carried out by volunteers. Anyone who can sponsor the group or volunteer to help can call Lilah on 01934 632567.
