A GAMESHOW contestant from Clevedon fought his way through 26 hours of some of the worst weather Britain has ever seen to compete for thousands of pounds on television.Simon Ward thought the apocalypse had arrived when he was caught in the middle of the Yorkshire floods as he desperately tried to get to Channel 4's studios in Leeds. The 40-year-old left his Clevedon home expecting to drive for four-and-a-half hours to take part in the game show, called Win My Wage - but he arrived more than a day later as he battled through the submerged roads. He said: "I thought the apocalypse had finally come, the flooding had caused my train to terminate, and the taxi the production team got me just kept getting diverted as all the roads were shut off."The phone networks kept dying. Cars were floating as if they were boats. Water was reaching the first windows of double-decker buses and I have never seen so many ambulances and helicopters. I did think about turning round and going home, anyone would. But the production team were right behind me."They moved my show to the following day so I could still do it and they made sure I had somewhere to stay for the night."Simon arrived 26 hours after leaving in the nick of time for the show, where he was challenged to guess the wages people earn in their jobs - with a total cash prize of £75,000 on offer. However, he is tight-lipped about how he got on and says people will have to tune in on Monday from 4.15pm on Channel 4 to find out.Pictured is Simon competing on the show.
