PORTISHEAD'S Lake Grounds is being considered as a possible site for a new skateboard park in the town.A special working party, set up to drive forward plans for a new skating facility in Portishead, has made a site visit to the beauty spot. The Lake Grounds is one of four sites currently under consideration for a new skateboard park.Councillors are also looking at the possibility of installing equipment at Pill Park and on land behind the football club at Clevedon Road. The fourth site being proposed is along the planned multi-use games area on the Ashlands development. Skateboard park working party chairman Councillor John S Clark said: "The Lake Grounds is being considered as a possible site, but is only one of four which are under consideration."The Lake Grounds is currently the focus of play activities in the town and central to most people in Portishead."The piece of land which is being looked at as a possible site is behind the boathouse.Cllr Clark added: "This land fits the criteria as it is a fair distance away from residential properties, yet can be overlooked."It is also close to other facilities such as toilets and somewhere to get refreshments."We have made visits to all the sites but no decision has been made and we do intend to consult widely on any proposed site."Calls for a new skateboard park in the town have been mounting over the past few months.A facility already exists in the town, which was funded by Portishead and North Weston Town Council, at Merlin Park. The working party is due to meet again in November where it will discuss the possible sites in more detail.*What do you think?
