BUDDING skateboarders in Burnham will be celebrating following confirmation that Apex Skate Park is to undergo a £70,000 upgrade next month.

Existing ramps and tarmac will be ripped up at the skate park, near Apex Drive, and replaced between July 7 and August 1, allowing skaters to use the new facilities for the majority of the summer holidays.

The park’s refurbishment will cost £72,994, with £58,395 coming from developer funds set aside for outdoor sport and the rest from Sedgemoor District Council.

A new half-pipe, quarter-pipe, planter, new wedge flats, bank ramps and a pyramid corner ramp will be installed during the renovation, using fastener-free ramps which should last longer than the existing ramps.

Previously in-use floodlighting has already been reinstated to the skate park this month.
