DRAYCOTT youngsters are being denied a mobile skatepark because they live on the wrong side of the village.Police have ruled that mobile skate ramps under their control are only available for use in the Sedgemoor area.Youths from Draycott, which is split between Mendip and Sedgemoor District Council areas, have been told they cannot have the ramps set up at the memorial hall, which falls within Sedgemoor. The ramps are based just a couple of miles away at Cheddar Police Station.Parish councillor Helen Dance, of The Street, said: "I used to run the youth club which closed about three years ago. "There are lots of kids who are keen skateboarders and mountain bikers and I always wanted to have a skate park for the youth club, but it was unpractical."I called the police and they said they couldn't possibly come out because virtually all the children come from Mendip and they were only allowed to deal with children from Sedgemoor District Council area."The funny thing is the children round here go to Cheddar schools. I think the situation is absolutely crazy."It seems like over the top bureaucracy when what I want to do is provide something for children to do in the summer holidays. I've spoken to the police in Wells who are desperate to get their own mobile skate park."A police spokesman said: "We can't put the skatepark everywhere all the time, but it will get put in areas where we can get the best use out of it."It is part-funded by Sedgemoor District Council which has an influence over where it goes.
