Skittlers from all over England and Wales have bowled close to a million balls during annual pilgrimages to Weston-super-Mare over the past 16 years.

Sand Bay Holiday Park has been hosting yearly skittles tournaments bringing more than 1,300 players to the town every April and May.

The players have competed across 53 game weekends since 2001, and this year passed the 900,000-ball mark.

Rachel Hosking, of organiser Serious About Events, said: “Weston has always been one of the most popular venues for our weekends. Our weekends here are always amongst the first to sell out.

“Sand Bay is also the biggest venue in our programme. Over the years, we have brought more than 22,000 skittlers to the town.

“We host up to 44 teams on each of our weekends who will have travelled from all over England and Wales.

“Many simply rebook while they’re here for next year because they love it so much.

“The atmosphere is always electric with so many players competing; they all enjoy a party too.”
