NORTH Somerset Council's planning chief says proposals to introduce safety measures along a busy road are 'slowly' making their way to the top of his list of priorities.Councillor Elfan Ap Rees was criticised by Worle traders last month after he emailed them to say that proposals to ease congestion and speeding in the High Street area are not high on his list of priorities. He also said there may not be any cash to follow through with the scheme they have been campaigning for.But the new executive member for strategic planning and economic development told the Weston & Somerset Mercury this week that he is planning to meet with councillors and officers to discuss a way forward. He said: "The situation is that when I took over there were a hell of a lot of things that needed doing."I now need to speak to Councillor Roz Willis, who represents that area of Worle, and also set up a meeting with officers to discuss the situation. Then we will see where it goes from there. It is slowly getting to the top of the pile."At the moment I am busy looking at much more critical things including road repairs and, as I have tried to say, when I get round to it I will discuss it with people who should be involved."Whether that will be with people previously involved, I cannot comment."Last year the local authority dropped plans to close Worle High Street in a bid to cut accidents. Traders have been working hard with officers and councillors to find an alternative.
