A FOOTBALL club's dreams of a £500,000 move to a new home took a major step forward this week when it submitted a bid for funding.Worle Football Club has applied to the Football Foundation for money to develop a clubhouse and pitches on a new site. The club currently plays its matches at the recreation ground in Station Road. But its clubhouse is repeatedly vandalised and the pitch is often used as a toilet by dogs.It has been planning a move for nearly 10 years.Club chairman Dennis Cole said: "Our Saturday morning begins by clearing up the mess left behind by some dog owners."Our changing rooms are old and dilapidated with poor security, they are constantly vandalised and there are no public toilets. Our future looks bleak in the current environment."The pavilion is vandalised almost on a monthly basis."The club's first team plays in the Somerset County League first division and the reserves in the Weston and District second division. The club needs to improve its facilities if its teams are going to progress up the leagues. The Worle side, which dates back to 1934, wants to move to a site off Ebdon Road, behind Oxhouse Industrial Estate. It has been offered a 20-year lease for the land. Two senior and two junior pitches will be created as well as a new pavilion with changing rooms.Mr Cole said: "We have planning permission for the changes we want to make and we have had firm promises of money."The club has pledges of over £270,000, including funds from a 'substantial sponsor' and has applied for over £230,000 from the Football Foundation. The club hopes to have a decision from the Football Foundation in the next three to four months. The building work is planned to start in October, with the pavilion ready for use in the 2007/8 season.
