A FOOTBALL club's changing rooms which were destroyed by fire last year will not be rebuilt in time for the new season. The contractor which originally built the facility for the football clubs in Berrow has gone out of business and the parish council is expecting a delay of up to four months before building work can start.Parish council chairman Andrea Johnstone said: "The plans will now take longer because the contractor which originally built the changing rooms has gone out of business. Therefore the plans will have to be put out to tender again."In addition we now have to comply with up-to-date building regulations."We are all feeling jaded and there is nothing we can do. It is disappointing for everyone including the footballers who are still using the village hall."The problem is there are only enough changing facilities for one team to change in the village hall at a time."The changing rooms were used by Berrow Football Club and Berrow Boys Football Club before a fire last November.Architects recently went in to assess the damage at the building off Parsonage Road. Parish councillors have now drawn up the plans to go out to tender and are working to get potential contractors to respond within four weeks. If everything goes according to plan, it is hoped that building work will start in August and the new changing rooms will open in the new year. But this would be too late for the start of the new season in September. The parish council and local residents are hoping to hold a fund-raising football match at the playing field on May 7 to raise money for equipment and additional facilities for the new building.
