SHARES are on sale for a solar energy plant planned for the Cheddar Valley.

The Wedmore Community Power Co-operative has been set up to enable people in the area to make use of solar energy and share in the financial rewards from it.

The plant will be sited in two new paddocks to the north of Wedmore, and will generate enough power for 300 homes.

The co-operative has already raised £150,000 but is looking for a further £800,000 investment, with the majority of the money expected to come from people in the area.

Those living in the area can invest a minimum of £250 while those from outside can invest a minimum £2,500.

The paddocks would be screened by hedges, to be planted this autumn, and will allow sheep to graze there.
